Overview
of Shiksha
Shiksha India is a non- profit organization,
launched during the India Economic Summit on 2nd December
2001.It is an initiative of Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII) and is managed by Shiksha India Trust. Mr.
Jamshyd N. Godrej is the chairman for the Trust.
Background
Shiksha started with the aim of reaching out to all
children especially to the underserved and making
accessible to them good quality multimedia driven
educational material. With a clear understanding that
providing merely hardware support was not sufficient to
impart computer-based education in schools and there was a
need to enable access to appropriate and applicable
content for the optimum utilization of computers in
schools. Accordingly Shiksha focused on development of
Content which would enhance the learning ability in
children, and allow them access to good quality
educational material. In the process they would also
become computer literate.
Shiksha collaborated with the Ministry of Human Resource
Development (MHRD) in CLASS (Computer Literacy &
Studies in Schools) scheme. This scheme has 19 states for
their respective IT educational initiatives. Shiksha acted
as the monitoring and evaluation partner for the CLASS, in
the initial years.
The Vidya Vahini project of the Ministry of Information
Technology gave Shiksha a platform to deliver education
content to government schools. |
