CII-Shiksha is working on mulitple projects to provide a multi-pronged intervention and assistance to the schools who lack the neccessary infrastructure or/and resources. The different intervention components would ensure that the schools are able to optimally utilise their existing technology infrastructure and resources. Through the different components provided by CII-Shiksha, the schools are empowered with tools and resources compatible with their existing infrastructure to move ahead with technology integration.

E-learning through Open Source

Under this, a range of open source tools are introduced in the schools to assist and help them get started on the e-learning platform. The tools include solutions such as Learning Management System, Animation Tools, Image Editing Tools, etc. Regular workshops are conducted for teachers to empower them with knowledge and give them hands-on practice to make them comfortable in using the tool. The projects assigned to the participants at the end of the workshop help them apply the tool in a structured manner for aiding the teaching-learning process.

Since January 2006, eight trainings have been conducted on Open Source LMS for school teachers and one training on Animation tool.

Thin Client Solution

This project suggests and delivers an effective technology solution for low-end, old/ obsolete machines possessed by the institutions. The project aims to provide ready-made solutions to setup a unix based client-server setup where a host of different applications could be installed on the server and various diskless nodes (clients) could access it. A large number of open source applications and tools could be easily installed on thin-client. This solution is very useful for institutions who have donated computers but no softwares/ applications to run.

The solution is in a ready-to-be installed package. Some awareness sessions being planned

Repository of educational content and applications

Open Source

Under this a repository of open source software and applications would is being identified and validated for distribution to the schools. The software/ applications would include ready made tools, educational applicaions, productivity softwares and more.

Shiksha schools

Under this, a repository of resources created by different Shiksha schools is put together and provided to all the schools. Also, a collection of ready made content available for sharing by the Shiksha schools is made available for use

The identification and validation process is in progress.

Web enabled education

Under this the teachers are exposed to some of the latest web technologies like blogs, wikis, etc. These technologies would help teachers understand the potential of  web as a teaching-learning tool and about their role in harnessing it for their benefit

One-day workshops are being planned for teachers to orient the teachers on web technologies like Blogs and Wikis and help them use the Shiksha portal effectively, contribute to it better and get started to use web as a tool for their teaching-learning
